Call for Commissioners

The CAATE is seeking applicants for the Board of Commissioners.  The CAATE defines an inclusive environment as one that recognizes the contributions and supports of all, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, race, religion, age, sex, marital status, socioeconomic status, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, or ability.

Responsibilities and Expectations of the CAATE Board of Commissioners Members:

  • Review, understand and abide by the CAATE bylaws and policies and procedures.
  • Assist officers in oversight of the management and direction of the CAATE.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings of the board of commissioners virtually or in person and be prepared to discuss the issues, having read the agenda and all background materials relevant to the agenda topics.
  • Serve as a resource to the CAATE staff, committees and other board of commission members.
  • Represent the CAATE in a positive and supportive manner at all times.
  • Introduce program needs and suggestions to the board of commissioners.
  • Assist in locating and developing funding sources for the CAATE.
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the president/board of commissioners.
  • Review and respond to all action and information requests from the CAATE.
  • Attend CAATE events when possible.
  • Sign and abide by the CAATE Conflict of Interest statement.
  • Be guided by the CAATE Mission in all policy decisions; keep the concerns of the CAATE at the forefront at all times versus concerns of an individual program or institution.
  • Provide input and vote on board decisions.
  • Observe parliamentary procedures and display courteous and professional conduct in all board meetings.
  • Respect the opinions of peers and leave personal prejudices out of all meeting discussions.
  • Support all actions taken by the board, even when in a minority position on such actions.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of board discussions.
  • Be willing to serve on a subcommittee of the board of commissioners as a board liaison to a committee as requested.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately three to five hours per week – more during in-person board of commissioners meeting and during the CAATE Accreditation Conference. *
  • Attend monthly 90 minute board of commissioners calls (second Tuesday of each month).
  • Attend two, typically in-person, meetings a year, each typically two days in length and usually in September and February of each year: one in Washington, D.C.; another TBD.
  • Attend the CAATE Accreditation Conference.
  • Serve on a board subcommittee, or as a board liaison to a committee requiring approximately six additional virtual meetings with five to seven hours of additional meeting or preparation time annually.

*Travel to in-person CAATE Commission Meetings and the Accreditation Conference is covered by the CAATE.
