Standard for Athletic Training Degree and Implementation Timeline
As announced on May 20, 2015, the Strategic Alliance (BOC, CAATE, NATA and NATA Foundation) has determined that the professional degree for Athletic Training be at the master’s degree. Following this announcement, the CAATE Standards Committee drafted a proposal for the wording of the new standard as well as the timeline for implementation of the standard. The CAATE appreciates the input of all of those who participated in the open comment process and provided feedback to better guide the development of this Standard. Open comment feedback was reviewed, and changes were made accordingly, during the August Commission meeting. Please see the revised Standard and implementation timeline below. In addition to incorporating the feedback into the timeline for implementation, the CAATE updated the degree FAQ page on the website to further answer some of the questions received in the open comment process. Specific questions that are not addressed on the FAQ page should be directed to the CAATE office by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling 1-512-733-9700.
CAATE accredited professional athletic training programs must result in the granting of a master’s degree in Athletic Training. The program must be identified as an academic athletic training degree in institutional academic publications. The degree must appear on the official transcript similar to normal designations for other degrees at the institution.
Timeline for Compliance with Standard 2:
Baccalaureate programs may not admit, enroll, or matriculate students into the athletic training program after the start of the fall term 2022
