Dr. Mary Barnum will present Strategies for Assisting Preceptors with Continuing Education That Aligns With the New Curricular Content Standards at the Accreditation Conference in Tampa, FL on Saturday, October 14, 2017. Dr. Barnum is the Chair of the Professional Education Committee of the NATA, and a member of the NATA’s Executive Council on Education. Dr. Barnum was a significant contributor to the Clinical Education White Paper Series as well as the Master Preceptor Development Program. She is co-creator of the SQF Model for Clinical Supervision and Teaching. Dr. Barnum has 14 years of experience as a clinical education coordinator, 13 years as a Program Director and 25 years as a preceptor. Dr. Barnum is the Director of the Athletic Training Program at Springfield College, in Springfield MA.
Strategies for Assisting Preceptors with Continuing Education That Aligns With the New Curricular Content Standards
The presentation will begin with a discussion of considerations that need to be addressed when designing continuing education opportunities for preceptors. Considerations will include state practice acts, use of clinical sites within state versus out of state, selection of sites based on needs of program, BOC® standards for CE programming and how educating preceptors differ from educating students. Information will then be presented on resources and strategies for assisting preceptors with continuing education that aligns with the proposed Curricular Content Standards.
