CAATE Attendance at ATPPS/AATE/PAATS
The CAATE attended a dynamic series of conferences, including the Athletic Trainers in the Physician Practice Society (ATPPS) Annual Meeting, the Association for Athletic Training Education (AATE), Annual Symposium, and the Performing Arts Athletic Trainers’ Society (PAATS) Annual Symposium in Louisville, KY on February 20-22. The CAATE participated in numerous presentations and workshops focused on the development and growth of accredited athletic training residency and fellowship programs.

2025 QI & Innovation Awards
Applications for the QI & Innovation Awards are open.
The CAATE Foundation’s mission is to serve as a catalyst to advance athletic training education through the promotion of quality improvement, innovation, diversity, and best practices for student recruitment. In support of its mission, the CAATE Foundation has developed an awards program to recognize programs for innovation and quality improvement in athletic training education.
Innovation Award: Recognizes a program’s use of strategic and intentional processes for identifying, implementing, and measuring new initiatives that advance program quality and/or learner achievement. Applications are due by Friday, April 11. Apply here.
Quality Improvement Award: Recognizes a program’s use of a structured, data-driven process to evaluate systems and outcomes that include identifying areas for improvement, selecting and implementing measurable changes, and analyzing changes to ensure progression toward established quality improvement project benchmarks. Toni Torres-McGehee and Kysha Harriell Honored as Most Distinguished Athletic Trainers
We would like to extend our congratulations to all the recipients of the 2025 National Awards, including Toni Torres-McGehee, Ph.D., LAT, ATC, FACSM, CAATE President; and Kysha Harriell, Ph.D., LAT, ATC, Vice President, for being honored with the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award.
The Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer award recognizes NATA members who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to leadership, volunteer service, advocacy and distinguished professional activities as an athletic trainer. MDAT exclusively recognizes NATA members who have been involved in service and leadership activities at the national and district level. No other award, NATA or otherwise, is a prerequisite for eligibility for MDAT.
New to Watch: Residency & Fellowship Standards Videos
The CAATE is excited to release a series of videos created with the goal of providing information in an approachable format on each of the CAATE’s Residency & Fellowship Program Standards. Each video contains a summary of a particular Standard’s intent and an explanation of how to demonstrate compliance.
Take the opportunity to review each standard and gain a deeper understanding of how they shape high-quality Residency & Fellowship programs. Whether you're new to accreditation or looking for clarity on specific standards, these videos offer valuable guidance for residency & fellowship program stakeholders.
