Open Comment – Proposed Revisions to the 2020 Standards and Procedures for Accreditation of Professional Programs
In August 2024, the CAATE Standards Committee concluded its systematic five-year review of the 2020 CAATE Standards for Professional Programs. This review supported the CAATE's commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement in athletic training education. The CAATE Standards Committee gathered feedback from internal and external stakeholders, utilizing various methods, including surveys, focus groups, and listening sessions. The analysis of this feedback led to several recommendations for revisions of the Standards and definitions to enhance clarity, reduce redundancies, and continue to promote program/institutional flexibility and autonomy.
The CAATE is now seeking public input on the proposed revisions to the Standards. The Standards Committee has only included standards and glossary definitions that are being suggested for revision or deletion. The final version of the Standards will be renumbered, and the bulleted lists will be numbered to increase clarity. We invite you to participate in this open comment period, as your feedback is essential to ensure the Standards effectively support athletic training programs and the mission of the CAATE.
The open comment period closes on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. Please view a summary of the proposed revisions to aid in your review.

Jenna E. Gardner
“I hope to help shape the future of athletic training by promoting inclusivity, diversity, and equity within the profession. Stacey Lansky:
“I have seen how overcoming language barriers, understanding different cultures, and understanding your patient’s level of health care literacy are essential to providing high-quality care. I will work to understand my patients as people first so that a connection and trust are built.”
Antionette Palacio Mirenda:
“I aim to bring greater awareness of the athletic training profession to the Latinx community. As a former athlete, I vividly recall the absence of athletic trainers who looked like me. I hope to be part of a growing trend of women of color in sports medicine.”
Jordan Robinson:
“My daily experiences in my skin, in a society that has historically overlooked people who look like me, will continue to help connect me to and nourish a community of athletes with similar life experiences.”
