Koehneke Award
The Pete Koehneke Award was established in 2016 and honors an outstanding leader who has made significant, ongoing contributions of exceptional value to athletic training education and accreditation over a sustained period of service. Recipients of this award, through their dedication and work, have had a lasting influence on the course of the profession at the national/international level.
Any person associated with athletic training education or institutions and organizations that sponsor CAATE-accredited programs is eligible to submit a nomination for the Pete Koehneke Award. A minimum of 20 years of service to AT education/accreditation is required to be considered for the award. Recipients will be selected by the Commission. This honor will be awarded when exemplary individuals are identified.
The deadline to submit nominations is today, Tuesday, March 31. Individuals identified for testimonials must submit them by Tuesday, April 7.
QI & Innovation Awards
In support of the CAATE’s mission to serve as a catalyst to advance athletic training education through the promotion of quality improvement, innovation, diversity, and best practices, the CAATE Foundation Board has developed an awards program to recognize programs for innovation and quality improvement in athletic training education. Applications are due by Friday, April 10.
Quality Improvement Award: Recognizes a program’s use of a structured, data-driven process to evaluate systems and outcomes that include identifying areas for improvement, selecting and implementing measurable changes, and analyzing changes to ensure progression toward established quality improvement project benchmarks.
Innovation Award: Recognizes a program’s use of strategic and intentional processes for identifying, implementing, and measuring new initiatives that advance program quality and/or learner achievement.

NATA Student Membership
Beginning July 1, new master's students in professional programs can receive the rest of 2026 for free when they join NATA by purchasing their 2027 student membership. This offer gives them immediate access to EducATe, scholarships, clinical immersion opportunities, and professional connections that help support their education and early-career transition. A brief reminder in class or advising sessions can help students understand the value of joining their professional home early.
Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Wayne R. Lamarre, MED, ATC, LAT, a dedicated CAATE peer reviewer who’s passionate about shaping the future of athletic training education. Highlights from his career include participating as a member of the Medical Staff for the U.S. Women’s National Ice Hockey Team, most notably at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
