At their September meeting, the Commission approved the following changes and additions to the Standards. The implementation timeline for change is listed beneath the explanation. Questions about these changes can be directed to support@caate.net.
Professional Program Standards 28 and 29:
The Standards Committee reviewed these Standards based on recommendation from the Review Committee Chair. The current Standards read:
28. Athletic Training Faculty Qualifications: All faculty assigned and responsible for the instruction of athletic training knowledge, skills, and abilities in required coursework must possess a current state credential and be in good standing with the state regulatory agency (where and when applicable) when teaching hands on athletic training patient care techniques with an actual patient population.
29. Athletic Training Faculty Qualifications: All athletic trainers who are identified as the primary instructor for athletic training courses (as identified by the matrix) must be certified and in good standing with the BOC and, where applicable, be credentialed by the state.
The Standards Committee proposed the elimination of Standard 29 and conducted an open comment for newly proposed language for Standard 28. The final approved changes are:
Standard 28: All faculty who instruct athletic training skills necessary for direct patient care must possess a current state credential and be in good standing with the state regulatory agency (in states where their profession is regulated). In addition, faculty who are solely credentialed as athletic trainers and who teach skills necessary for direct patient care must be BOC certified.
Eliminate Standard 29
These changes will be implemented on July 1, 2017 and affect only professional programs.
